The pricing structure behind the Reliquaries only deepens player dissatisfaction. On the surface, it seems fair: each premium Reliquary costs 500 Platinum, and all three can be purchased together for Diablo IV Gold 1,500 Platinum. However, there’s also a hidden “Battle Pass Bundle” that includes all three Reliquaries for just 1,000 Platinum. This bundle is clearly the best deal-if you find it in time. If you’ve already bought even one Reliquary, you’re locked out of the discounted bundle and forced to pay full price for the rest. It’s a system that punishes players for not knowing the most cost-effective route beforehand.
Even more baffling is the Deluxe Bundle, offered at a steep 2,800 Platinum. For nearly triple the standard bundle price, players might expect an avalanche of exclusive content. Instead, they receive the same armor set already available in the cheaper bundle, plus a pet and a pair of wings. That’s it. For nearly $30 in real-world currency, players are essentially paying for two cosmetic add-ons. The value proposition is dismal, and many in the community aren’t buying it-literally or figuratively.
Following intense community backlash, Blizzard acknowledged the criticism in a recent Campfire Chat. Developers stated they had received “overwhelming feedback” and were actively considering changes. However, they made it clear that no adjustments would be made until after Season 9. Adam Fletcher, the game's director of social and content marketing, further commented on Reddit, emphasizing that the Reliquary system was designed “to offer value for both paying and non-paying players.” He also addressed plans for future crossovers, promising better balance between price and content.
That statement came in the wake of the widely criticized Berserk collaboration. Fans expected a rich, meaningful integration of the anime’s dark aesthetic into Diablo’s world. What they got was a series of pricey cosmetics with little to no gameplay relevance. The disappointment added fuel to the fire, reinforcing the narrative that Blizzard’s focus has shifted from rewarding play to cheap D4 Gold maximizing monetization.
